The town once produced about 10 percent of the cigars made in the United States and still raises a cigar on New Year's Eve, and its furniture factories have shifted mostly to kitchen cabinets and store fixtures. The Red Lion Borough Historic District is on the National Register.

What Red Lion homeowners ask for

  • Rebuilding decks on older borough homes
  • Stairs and railings for raised back doors
  • Decks on newer homes at the borough's edges
  • Composite to cut down on upkeep

Older homes, compact lots

The borough's older neighborhoods have compact lots and homes that predate modern deck details. Rebuilding often means new footings, a properly bolted and flashed ledger, and stairs that meet today's dimensions.

Permits

Red Lion is a separate borough from York Township, which surrounds much of it, and administers the UCC through its own process. Confirm setbacks with the borough before you plan the deck's footprint.
